Duties

GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION:
To oversee the successful operation of St. John Preschool by committing to providing a Christ-centered, Biblically based program that prioritizes a high-quality education and foundation of faith for preschool students.

General Responsibilities: To actively seek God?s will in establishing policies and procedures that are in the best interest of 150+ students and 30+ staff members. To support and develop 30+ staff members by leading them in best practices and providing opportunities for discipleship. It is the director?s responsibility to maintain the state childcare license by adhering to all state guidelines and law. The director provides clear and effective communication to staff members, families, the Division of Regulated Childcare, the Preschool / After School Board, and St. John Community Church staff. The director oversees the financial operations of the preschool program.

Primary Responsibilities (many of these are shared with the assistant director):
  • Establish preschool policies and procedures.
  • Continuously evaluate the effectiveness and quality of the preschool program; adjust policies as needed to benefit students, families, and staff.
  • Review state regulations and law for preschool programs and modify policies to ensure compliance.
  • Develop personnel standards and staff agreement to reflect the goal of providing an education that is guided by our Christian faith.
  • Maintain a state childcare license in good standing by adhering to state regulations and law.
  • Meet the qualifications to be the director of a childcare program in the state of Kentucky.
  • Conduct in-service training to educate staff on state regulations and program policies.
  • Document required procedures including but not limited to emergency preparedness, safety drills, required postings, hours and rates, exposure to communicable disease, incident reporting.
  • Maintain staff records to include criminal records checks, TB tests, education verification, 15 hours annual training, CPR/First Aid training, annual performance evaluations and professional development.
  • Maintain student records to include attendance records, immunization certificates, medical releases, administration of medication forms, parent handbook, registration forms.
  • Maintain facility records to include insurance, transportation, floor plan.
  • Enroll and complete placement for 150+ students.
  • Market preschool program.
  • Execute annual registration process for preschool families.
  • Prayerfully and thoughtfully place students in classrooms to maximize student success.
  • Conduct tours for prospective families.
  • Recruit, interview, and hire competent, experienced, and qualified staff.
  • Plan and implement opportunities for in-person continuing education.
  • Evaluate staff performance using observation, self-reflection, goal setting/professional development plan.
  • One-on-one meetings with each staff member to review all aspects of staff evaluation and develop strategies for meeting personal goals.
  • Develop, distribute, and analyze results of parent surveys.
  • Provide encouragement and guidance to staff.
  • Collaborate to develop solutions for children who need extra support.
  • Mediate disputes between staff or staff/parents.
  • Prioritize discipleship and opportunities for staff to grow in their faith. Empower staff members to use their unique gifts and talents to help each other grow in their faith.
  • Oversee curriculum and assessment tools.
  • Collaborate with team leaders and teachers regarding themes, curriculum, teaching methods, refining assessment tools including developmentally appropriate checklists and portfolio assessment.
  • Establish program schedule including extended day and early care programs.
  • Support children with varying needs to allow them to meet their full potential in a safe environment.
  • Assist children who are ill, injured, need guidance/support in decision making, or who need specialized attention.
  • Communicate with families, preschool staff, and St. John Community Church staff.
  • Oversee preschool finances.
  • Develop the annual budget based on fair tuition rates.
  • Oversee scholarship application process, scholarship committee meeting, and distributing scholarships.
  • Develop pay chart for competitive staff compensation.
  • Partner with St. John ministries financially (i.e. building usage); supply equipment
  • and renovations that are mutually beneficial.
  • Complete bi-monthly payroll.
  • Spend time in classrooms to observe, participate, and encourage teachers.
  • Weekly emails include devotional, reminders about upcoming events.
  • Conduct monthly staff, team leader, and team meetings.
  • Support staff in their faith journey by taking an active interest in their lives and promoting discipleship.
  • Collaborate with Preschool / After School Board to make decisions regarding preschool rates, budget, policies, projects.
  • Oversee Meet the Teacher Day and Parent/Student Orientation
  • Oversee/Plan Bi-monthly chapel services, Preschool Pumpkin Patch, Thanksgiving Celebrations.
Families
  • Spend time in classrooms, develop rapport with students.
  • Update and review parent handbook at annual parent orientation.
  • Monthly newsletters ? includes information on policies, curriculum, themes, events, opportunities at St. John Community Church.
  • Communicate with parents about children who need extra support. Connect them with community resources and collaborate with them for student success.
St. John Community Church
  • Actively participate in weekly prayer and staff meetings.
  • Continuous open communication to work together to uphold the vision and values of St. John Community Church.
  • Develop and promote opportunities to partner with St. John Community Church and its various ministries.
  • Provide information for families not listing a church home to pastoral staff.
  • Coordinate and execute Preschool / After School Sunday

Requirements

Previous classroom teaching experience.
